Drugs That Can Interfere With Aciphex

Aciphex Drug Interactions Explained

The following sections explain in detail the potentially negative interactions that can occur when Aciphex is combined with any of the drugs listed above.

Atazanavir
Aciphex can substantially decrease the level of atazanavir in the blood (making it less effective). As a result, it is not recommended to take these two medications together.

Clopidogrel (Plavix)
Aciphex is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI). Research suggests that some other PPIs may decrease the effectiveness of clopidogrel. This could potentially be a serious drug interaction. However, in studies, it appears that Aciphex probably does not interact with clopidogrel. Nevertheless, it is a good idea to discuss this with your healthcare provider before combining these medications.

Cyclosporine
Aciphex could potentially increase the level of cyclosporine in the blood. Check with your healthcare provider before combining cyclosporine with Aciphex.

Digoxin
Aciphex could increase the absorption of digoxin into the blood, perhaps increasing the risk of digoxin side effects and toxicity. Check with your healthcare provider before combining these medications. Aciphex may cause low blood magnesium levels, which can lead to serious arrhythmias (irregular heart rhythms), especially in people taking digoxin. Your healthcare provider may decide to monitor your magnesium levels periodically if you are taking digoxin and Aciphex.

Certain Diuretics
Aciphex can cause low blood magnesium (hypomagnesemia). Because certain diuretics can also cause this problem, combining Aciphex with one of these diuretics could cause severely low blood magnesium levels, which may lead to serious side effects such as muscle spasms, irregular heart rhythms, or seizures. Your healthcare provider may decide to monitor your magnesium levels periodically if you are taking Aciphex with one of these diuretics.

Iron
Aciphex could decrease the absorption of iron into the blood, perhaps making it less effective. Check with your healthcare provider before combining these medications.
