Generic Axid

Generic prescription Axid is available in 150 mg and 300 mg tablets. There are currently no generic versions of Axid AR tablets or Axid Oral Solution available. July 2022 is the earliest possible date that a generic form of Axid Oral Solution could be manufactured. A number of companies manufacture generic Axid, including Eon Labs, Teva Pharmaceuticals, and Par Pharmaceutical.

 

Generic for Axid: An Overview

Axid® (nizatidine) is a medication that has been licensed to treat several conditions of the esophagus, stomach, and intestines. It is part of a class of drugs known as H-2 blockers. Axid is available both over the counter and by prescription.
 
Prescription Axid capsules are made by Reliant Pharmaceuticals, while prescription Axid® Oral Solution is made by Braintree Laboratories. Over-the-counter Axid® AR is made by Whitehall-Robins. The patents for Axid capsules and Axid AR tablets have expired; however, there are no generic over-the-counter Axid AR tablets currently available.
 
The first patent for Axid Oral Solution expires in July 2022. This is the earliest possible date that a generic version of Axid Oral Solution could become available. However, there are other circumstances that could come up to extend the exclusivity period of Axid Oral Solution beyond 2022. These circumstances could include things such as other patents for specific Axid Oral Solution uses or lawsuits. Once Axid Oral Solution goes off patent, there may be several companies that manufacture a generic Axid Oral Solution.
