Curcumin Drug Interactions

Although there are no documented drug interactions with curcumin, some anticoagulant or antiplatelet medications could, theoretically, interact with curcumin. Drug interactions may occur if it is taken with medications such as aspirin, blood pressure medications, or heparin products. Talk to your healthcare provider about potential drug interactions that may apply to you before taking curcumin supplements.

 

An Overview of Curcumin Drug Interactions

There are no documented
 curcumin drug interactions. Theoretically, curcumin might interact with medications that "thin" the blood, possibly increasing the risk of bleeding (including dangerous internal bleeding). Some of the anticoagulant or antiplatelet medications that could lead to drug interactions with curcumin include:
 
 
    • Dalteparin (Fragmin®)
    • Enoxaparin (Lovenox®)
    • Tinzaparin (Innohep®)
 
  • Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as:
 
 
  • Warfarin (Coumadin®, Jantoven®).
     
If you take any of these medications, you should consult your healthcare provider before taking curcumin. It is possible that not every drug interaction was discussed in this article. Therefore, you should talk with your pharmacist or healthcare provider about the curcumin drug interactions that may apply to you.
