Cytotec Abortion

Because Cytotec® (misoprostol) can cause uterine contractions and uterine bleeding, it may sometimes be prescribed "off-label" to terminate a pregnancy. This unapproved use of Cytotec for causing an abortion, however, could cause potentially dangerous complications.

There have been reports that using this drug to terminate a pregnancy may cause uterine rupture, which occurs when the lining of the uterus has a tear in it. This can potentially lead to serious harm in the mother.
