Cytotec Heavy Bleeding

Although most people tolerate Cytotec® (misoprostol) well, some people will develop side effects while taking this drug. Some of these reactions may be serious and should be reported to your healthcare provider right away.

For example, some uses of this drug may lead to serious complications. Although it is not an approved use, Cytotec may be prescribed "off-label" to help stimulate uterine contractions to induce labor or cause an abortion. However, there is a risk of heavy bleeding during Cytotec use, which occurs as a result of a uterine rupture (a tear in the lining of the uterus). This can harm the unborn child and the mother.
