Who Makes Cytotec?

A healthcare provider may prescribe Cytotec® (misoprostol) to help prevent stomach ulcers in certain people taking nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). It decreases stomach acid secretion and protects the lining of the stomach.

Cytotec is made by Pfizer, Inc., for G.D. Searle, LLC. Generic versions are also available, which are made by Greenstone, LLC.

Brand-name and generic Cytotec tablets come in two strengths, including:

  • 100 mcg (0.1 mg)
  • 200 mcg (0.2 mg).
