Other, less common symptoms with
GERD may include:
- A sore throat
- Hoarseness, especially in the morning
- Coughing
- Breathing problems similar to asthma
- Bad breath.
There are a number of GERD symptoms, with
heartburn being the most common. However, not everyone with heartburn has GERD. For people who only get occasional heartburn, over-the-counter medications often relieve the discomfort. But if you experience heartburn two or more times a week, or if over-the-counter
antacids work only temporarily or not at all, you may have GERD. If you think you have gastroesophageal reflux disease, talk to your healthcare provider. GERD treatment is available. For most people, it is quite successful in relieving their symptoms.
