Metozolv ODT Medication Information

The medication Metozolv™ ODT (orally disintegrating metoclopramide) is prescribed on a short-term basis (no longer than 12 weeks) for conditions such as diabetic gastroparesis and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). It comes in the form of a tablet that is placed under the tongue, where it dissolves quickly (in about a minute).

This drug has several different effects in the body, so it is also sometimes used in an "off-label" fashion to treat nausea and vomiting associated with certain medical conditions. Medicines like Metozolv ODT can cause a rare but dangerous group of symptoms known as extrapyramidal symptoms, which is why it is only used for a short period. Information your healthcare provider needs when prescribing this medication include a list of all other medicines you are taking -- including nonprescription drugs and supplements -- and any other medical conditions you have.

(Click Metozolv ODT for more information on this medication, including how it works to treat a variety of conditions, other side effects to be aware of, dosing guidelines, and more.)
