Infant GERD Diagnosis

Making an Infant GERD Diagnosis: A Summary

In order to diagnose
infant GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease), the healthcare provider will ask a number of questions about the infant's:

  • Current symptoms
  • Feeding history.

He or she will also perform a physical exam to look for infant GERD symptoms. Depending on what is found, the healthcare provider may also recommend certain tests. These tests can help determine if the infant has GERD or possibly some other condition with similar symptoms.

In a lot of cases, if the infant is healthy, happy, and growing well, no tests or treatment may be needed. Also, sometimes treatment is started without tests.
