GERD Home > Axid Alternatives
Although conditions like GERD, ulcers, and heartburn can usually be treated with Axid, alternatives to the medication can be considered if Axid is not effective or if side effects occur. Common alternatives to Axid include surgery, diet or lifestyle changes, and other medications. Other drugs that may be used as Axid alternatives include antacids and foaming agents, H2 blockers, and proton pump inhibitors.
Axid® (nizatidine) is a medication used for treating several conditions related to the esophagus, stomach, and intestines. These conditions include ulcers, GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease), and heartburn. Although Axid can be effective at treating these conditions, it may not work for everyone -- and it is possible that side effects of Axid may occur. Fortunately, there are several substitutes for Axid. Some of these Axid substitutes include:
- Diet or other lifestyle changes
- Other medications
Diet changes can be especially helpful in relieving symptoms of mild heartburn or GERD. While a GERD diet may help with less serious conditions, diet alone is usually not enough for more serious conditions (see GERD Diet).
