Causes of GERD: A Summary

GERD research scientists and doctors do not know the specific cause or causes of GERD. They do, however, know a number of factors that can increase a person's chances for developing it. These risk factors do not guarantee that a person will have GERD, but the more risk factors a person has, the greater the chances. Your doctor can help you identify the factors that may be contributing to your GERD.
