Prevacid 24HR can cause low blood magnesium (hypomagnesemia). Because certain diuretics can also cause this problem, combining Prevacid 24HR with one of these diuretics could cause severely low blood magnesium levels, which may lead to serious side effects such as muscle spasms, irregular heart rhythms, or seizures. Your healthcare provider may decide to monitor your magnesium levels periodically if you are taking Prevacid 24HR with one of these diuretics.
Prevacid 24HR may decrease the level of erlotinib in the blood. In general, this combination should be avoided.
Prevacid 24HR may decrease the absorption of iron into the body. If you take iron for anemia, talk with your healthcare provider before taking Prevacid 24HR.
Prevacid 24HR may decrease the absorption of ketoconazole into the body, perhaps making it less effective. Check with your healthcare provider before taking these medications together.
Prevacid 24HR might increase the level of methotrexate in the blood, increasing the risk for methotrexate side effects. Check with your healthcare provider before combining these two medications.
Prevacid 24HR may decrease the level of nelfinavir in the blood. In general, this combination should be avoided.
Prevacid 24HR may decrease the level of posaconazole in the blood. In general, this combination should be avoided.
Prevacid 24HR may increase the level of tacrolimus in the bloodstream. Your healthcare provider may recommend a different heartburn medication to avoid this drug interaction. If you must take these two medications together, your healthcare provider should carefully monitor the level of tacrolimus in your blood and adjust your dosage as necessary.
