Using Prevacid for a Stomach Ulcer Associated With NSAID Use
The recommended starting dose of Prevacid to reduce the risk of a stomach ulcer (gastric ulcer) associated with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) is Prevacid 15 mg once a day for up to 12 weeks. The recommended starting dose of Prevacid to heal a stomach ulcer (gastric ulcer) associated with NSAIDs is Prevacid 30 mg once a day for up to eight weeks.
Using Prevacid for Treating H. Pylori Infections
Treatment to kill Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) involves using two other drugs besides Prevacid. This treatment is known as "triple therapy." Triple therapy to kill H. pylori involves taking Prevacid 30 mg twice a day, plus amoxicillin 1,000 mg (twice daily) and clarithromycin 500 mg (twice daily). All three medications are taken for 10 or 14 days.
