Is Neem Safe?

Since dietary supplements are not as closely regulated as medications, many people may wonder, "Is neem safe?" There have been reports of serious neem side effects in children, so it is best to avoid giving the product to children. Since neem may worsen autoimmune diseases and lower blood sugar, tell your healthcare provider if you have an autoimmune disease or diabetes before using the supplement.

Neem Safety: An Overview

Neem is a popular dietary supplement that is used for treating a variety of conditions. You should talk with your healthcare provider prior to taking neem if you have:

  • Infertility
  • Diabetes
  • An autoimmune disorder, such as:

  • Any allergies, including allergies to foods, dyes, or preservatives.

Also let your healthcare provider know if you:

  • Have had an organ transplant
  • Are pregnant or thinking of becoming pregnant
  • Are breastfeeding.

You should also be sure to tell your healthcare provider about all other medicines you are taking, including prescription and non-prescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
