An Overview of Neem and Breastfeeding
Neem is sometimes claimed to be safe for breastfeeding women. However, no studies have been done to see if neem passes through breast milk or if it causes any problems for breastfeeding women or their infants. Therefore, it is a good idea to check with your healthcare provider before taking neem while breastfeeding.
It is not known if neem products are safe (or unsafe) for women who are breastfeeding. No studies have evaluated the safety of neem for breastfeeding women. It should not be assumed that because neem is a commonly used natural product that it is automatically safe for use while breastfeeding. After all, many poisons and toxins are natural products. Similarly, just because other women have safely used neem (or any other herb or medication) while breastfeeding does not mean that the product is truly safe. At this time, there is simply not enough evidence to suggest that neem is a good choice for breastfeeding women.
