This prescription medication is classified as a proton pump inhibitor and works by decreasing the amount of acid in the stomach. As a result, this medication can help treat conditions such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), erosive esophagitis, and H. pylori infections. Some of the common side effects seen with this drug include nausea, headaches, and diarrhea. Among the conditions that you should let your healthcare provider know about before you take Nexium include liver disease, liver failure, or any allergies.
