Nexium Drug Interactions

There are a number of drugs that may interact with Nexium. Drug interactions may have serious consequences, so it's important to tell your healthcare provider about all the medications you take, including over-the-counter medicines, supplements, and vitamins. In the case of Nexium, drug interactions may occur with medications such as diazepam and digoxin. Other possible drug interactions with Nexium may involve drugs such as ketoconazole and warfarin.

Nexium Drug Interactions: An Introduction

Nexium® (esomeprazole magnesium) may potentially interact with a number of other medicines. Some of these possible Nexium drug interactions may involve the following:

  • Atazanavir (Reyataz®)

  • Diazepam (Valium®)

  • Digoxin (Digitek®, Lanoxin®, Lanoxicaps®)
  • Iron salts
  • Ketoconazole (Nizoral®)
  • Voriconazole (Vfend®)

  • Warfarin (Coumadin®, Jantoven®).

Atazanavir (Reyataz)
Nexium can decrease the level of atazanavir in your blood, perhaps making it less effective. Your healthcare provider may need to increase your atazanavir dose.

Diazepam
When taking Nexium with diazepam, your body may metabolize the medicines differently than intended, although it is not believed to be significant. You may wish to discuss this with your healthcare provider, prior to starting Nexium.

Digoxin
If you are taking both Nexium and digoxin, your body may metabolize the medications differently than intended. Your healthcare provider may choose to monitor your progress closely.
