Nexium for Acid Reflux

Nexium® (
esomeprazole magnesium) is a medication approved for treating various conditions related to the esophagus, stomach, and intestines. Healthcare providers primarily prescribe the medication for acid reflux, but Nexium is also licensed to treat H. pylori infections and pathological hypersecretory conditions.

Nexium is a type of proton pump inhibitor that works by blocking acid production sites in your stomach, to decrease the amount of stomach acid. Lowering the amount of acid in your stomach can help relieve heartburn and other GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease) symptoms.

You should talk to your healthcare provider before taking Nexium if you have liver disease or liver failure, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or have any allergies.
