Generic Pepcid

Pepcid is available in prescription and generic forms. Generic Pepcid is made by several companies, including Major Pharmaceuticals and Watson Pharmaceuticals. Currently, there are only two Pepcid products that are not available in generic form.

 

Pepcid Generic: An Overview

Pepcid® (famotidine) is a medication that has been licensed to treat several conditions affecting the esophagus, stomach, and intestines. It is part of a class of drugs known as H2 blockers. Pepcid is available both over the counter and by prescription.
 
Prescription-strength Pepcid is made by Merck and Company. Over-the-counter Pepcid AC® and Pepcid Complete® are made by Johnson & Johnson. Generic prescription-strength Pepcid tablets are currently available, as are over-the-counter generic Pepcid AC and Pepcid Complete.
 
At this time, the following products are not available in generic form:
 
  • Maximum Strength Pepcid EZ Chews chewable tablets
  • Pepcid for Oral Suspension (liquid prescription Pepcid).
     

Strengths of Generic Pepcid

Generic prescription Pepcid is available in the following strengths:
 
  • Famotidine 20 mg tablets
  • Famotidine 40 mg tablets
     
Generic over-the-counter Pepcid is available in 10 mg and 20 mg tablets, and is sold under the following names:
 
  • Famotidine tablets
  • Acid Reducer tablets
  • Heartburn Relief tablets.
     
Generic over-the-counter Pepcid complete is sold under the name Famotidine Complete Chewable tablets.
