Pepcid Uses (Cont.)

Pepcid Uses in Children and Adolescents

Over-the-counter Pepcid AC is approved to treat sour stomach, acid indigestion, and heartburn in children ages 12 and over. Prescription Pepcid is approved for the treatment of GERD in infants (even newborns) and children, and is approved to treat ulcers in children as young as one year old.

Off-Label Pepcid Uses

On occasion, your healthcare provider may recommend Pepcid for treating something other than the conditions discussed in this article. This is called an "off-label" use. At this time, there are a few off-label Pepcid uses, such as:

  • Preventing ulcers in people in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a hospital (this use is also known as "stress ulcer prophylaxis")
  • Preventing acid-related pneumonia during surgeries
  • Treating H. pylori infections.
