Prevacid Alternatives

Prevacid® (lansoprazole) is a medication used for treating several conditions related to the esophagus, stomach, and intestines. These conditions include ulcers, GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease), H. pylori infections, and other similar conditions. Although Prevacid can be effective in treating these conditions, for some people it does not work, or side effects may occur. Fortunately, there are several alternative medications for Prevacid. Some of these Prevacid alternatives include:

There are several different types of medication that could be used as an alternative for Prevacid. Because each class of medication works in a different way, combinations of drugs may help control symptoms. For example, people who get heartburn after eating may take both antacids and H2 blockers. The antacids work first to neutralize the acid in the stomach, while the H2 blockers act on acid production. By the time the antacid stops working, the H2 blocker will have stopped acid production.

If Prevacid is not working for you or if it is causing bothersome side effects, ask your healthcare provider about trying a Prevacid alternative.
