What Does the Research Say?
No studies have been done to see if Prevacid passes through breast milk in humans. Animal studies, however, have shown that the medication passes through breast milk in rats. The manufacturer recommends that breastfeeding women not take Prevacid, as there is a theoretical increased risk of cancers or tumors, based on studies of this medication in rats.
Because of the unknown risks, a different medication may be a better option for women who are pregnant or may become pregnant.
