Prevacid OTC

Prevacid® 24HR (lansoprazole) is a medication used for the short-term treatment of frequent heartburn. This type of Prevacid is available over-the-counter (OTC) and comes in the form of a capsule that should be taken once a day (each morning, before you have eaten anything) for 14 days.

This medicine is a type of proton pump inhibitor that works by decreasing the amount of acid in the stomach by blocking acid production sites. This action can help relieve heartburn and other symptoms.

Prior to beginning treatment, you should let your healthcare provider know if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have liver disease or liver failure, or have any allergies. Although most people tolerate it well, side effects are possible with the OTC version of Prevacid. Some of the most commonly reported side effects include nausea, diarrhea, and stomach pain.
