Prevacid® (lansoprazole) is a prescription medicine licensed to treat numerous conditions related to the stomach, intestines, and esophagus. It is commonly used for treating GERD, ulcers, erosive esophagitis, H. pylori infections, and pathological hypersecretory conditions. Prevacid can decrease the amount of acid in the stomach by blocking the acid production sites. The medication comes in a tablet, capsule, or liquid form that should be taken before eating. Potential side effects include diarrhea, nausea, and abdominal pain.
