Prilosec® (omeprazole) is a prescription medication used to treat several conditions related to the esophagus, stomach, and intestines. Prilosec is part of a class of drugs known as proton pump inhibitors (PPIs). Over-the-counter
Prilosec OTC® (
omeprazole magnesium) is also available for treating
heartburn.
Celexa® (
citalopram) is a prescription medication used to treat
depression. Taking these Celexa and Prilosec together may possibly lead to a drug interaction.
Prilosec can decrease the body's ability to process and eliminate Celexa, causing higher levels of Celexa in the blood. This interaction with Prilosec might increase your risk of
Celexa side effects. Your healthcare provider may need to adjust your Celexa dosage, particularly when you are starting or stopping Prilosec. Or, you may find that combining these medications causes no changes at all. Be sure to talk to your healthcare provider before using these medications together.
