Affording Prilosec

For most people (even those with insurance), over-the-counter Prilosec OTC (generic or brand-name) is less expensive than prescription Prilosec (even generic prescription Prilosec). Many insurance companies no longer cover prescription Prilosec, and many companies that do cover it charge a co-pay that is higher than the cost of Prilosec OTC. Although Prilosec and Prilosec OTC are technically not interchangeable, most healthcare providers recommend that their patients use Prilosec OTC instead of prescription Prilosec.
