Prilosec Dosage

Generally, the dosage of Prilosec your healthcare provider recommends will vary depending on several factors, such as your age, the medical condition being treated, existing medical conditions, and other medications you are taking. Prilosec comes in the form of a capsule and is taken once or twice a day for a certain amount of time, depending on the condition being treated. The medication is best taken on an empty stomach, half an hour before a meal.

Prilosec Dosage: An Introduction

The dose of Prilosec^® (omeprazole) that your healthcare provider recommends will vary, depending on a number of factors, including:

Your age
The medical condition being treated
Other medications you may be taking
Other medical conditions you may have.

Helicobacter Pylori Infection

There are two different regimens for treating H. pylori infections. The triple therapy regimen consists of the following medications taken for 10 days (or for 28 days in people who currently have a duodenal ulcer):

Prilosec 20 mg twice daily
Clarithromycin (Biaxin^®) 500 mg twice daily
Amoxicillin (Amoxil^®) 1000 mg twice daily.

The dual therapy regimen consists of the following medications taken for 14 days (or for 28 days for people who currently have a duodenal ulcer):

Prilosec 40 mg once daily
Clarithromycin (Biaxin) 500 mg three times daily.

Duodenal Ulcers

The recommended Prilosec dose for duodenal ulcer treatment is Prilosec 20 mg for four to eight weeks.
