For many people, Prilosec is more affordable than Nexium. Nexium is not available in a generic (as is Prilosec). Also, Prilosec is available as an over-the-counter product (Prilosec OTC®), while Nexium is not.

Although the PPIs are all very similar, some people may find that one works better than the others. For most people, cost and insurance coverage are the most important factors when choosing between Prilosec and Nexium. However, some people may find that one product works better, as individuals can respond to medications differently.
