Protonix® (pantoprazole sodium) is approved to treat several conditions involving the esophagus, stomach, and intestines. Specifically, this prescription medication works to treat conditions such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), erosive esophagitis, and pathological hypersecretory diseases by reducing the amount of acid in the stomach. Protonix comes in the form of tablets or oral granule packets, and is typically taken once or twice a day. Possible side effects of this medication include headaches, diarrhea, and nausea.
