Protonix for Heartburn
Protonix® (pantoprazole sodium) is a medication commonly prescribed for the treatment of conditions related to the esophagus, stomach, and intestines. For example, many people treat their heartburn with Protonix.
The medicine works by blocking acid production sites in the stomach. This action decreases the amount of acid in your stomach, which helps to relieve heartburn. A decrease in the amount of stomach acid will also give the esophagus, the stomach, and the intestines time to heal.
If you are pregnant or have liver disease or liver failure, it is important to let your healthcare provider know before you start taking Protonix.
