Reglan® (metoclopramide) is a medication that is available by prescription to treat diabetic gastroparesis and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). The drug, which is approved for short-term use only, works by tightening the esophageal sphincter and relaxing the pyloric sphincter. It also increases the muscular contractions of the stomach and small intestines. You should talk to your healthcare provider before using Reglan if you have gastrointestinal bleeding or perforation, congestive heart failure, or high blood pressure.
