Is Sucralfate Used for Off-Label Reasons?

On occasion, your healthcare provider may recommend this medicine for something other than treating duodenal ulcers (this would be known as an "off-label" use). A few off-label uses for sucralfate include:
 
  • Treating and/or preventing gastric ulcers (stomach ulcers)
  • Treating mouth sores and digestive tract sores due to chemotherapy or radiation
  • Treating gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
  • Preventing ulcers in people in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a hospital (this use is also known as "stress ulcer prophylaxis").
