Infant Zantac

Ulcers
For the treatment of stomach ulcers or duodenal ulcers in a child or infant, the recommended Zantac dosage usually ranges from 2 mg to 4 mg per kg (a little less than 1 mg to 2 mg per pound) twice daily. The total amount of Zantac administered per day should not be more than 300 mg (this is only an issue with larger children). For preventing ulcers from coming back once they are healed, the typical recommended dose is 2 mg to 4 mg per kg (a little less than 1 mg to 2 mg per pound) once a day (not to exceed 150 mg per day).

GERD or Erosive Esophagitis
For treating erosive esophagitis or GERD in children or infants, the recommended dose of Zantac is usually 5 mg to 10 mg per kg (a little less than 2.5 mg to 5 mg per pound) total per day. This is usually split up into two doses per day.

Final Thoughts

Zantac is approved for use in infants and comes in two convenient dosage forms. However, you should always talk to your infant's healthcare provider before giving any medication to your infant. Do not give your infant over-the-counter Zantac.
