Zantac? Xantax is a common misspelling of Zantac.

Zantac® (ranitidine hydrochloride) is a prescription medicine used for treating pathological hypersecretory conditions, gastric and duodenal ulcers, GERD, and erosive esophagitis. An over-the-counter product is also available to treat heartburn, sour stomach, and acid indigestion. Zantac, which belongs to a class of drugs called H2 blockers, decreases the amount of acid produced by the stomach by blocking histamine. While most people tolerate the drug well, potential side effects include nausea or vomiting, constipation, and rash.
