Zantac® (
ranitidine hydrochloride) is a medicine approved to treat various conditions within the esophagus, stomach, and intestines. It is available in both prescription and non-prescription forms.
There are several prescription Zantac products available, including:
- Zantac 150 mg tablets
- Zantac 300 mg tablets
- Zantac 25 mg tablets (EFFERdose® form)
- Zantac 150 mg tablets (EFFERdose form)
- Zantac syrup 15 mg per mL (75 mg per teaspoonful).
Over-the-counter Zantac is available in two strengths:
- Zantac 75 Acid Reducer -- containing 75 mg of medication
- Maximum Strength Zantac 150 Acid Reducer -- containing 150 mg of medication.
The recommended dose of Zantac for the treatment of
GERD, stomach ulcers, and pathological hypersecretory conditions is 150 mg twice daily. For duodenal ulcers, healthcare providers usually recommend either 150 mg twice daily or 300 mg once daily in the evening.
For the treatment of erosive esophagitis, the usual dose is Zantac 150 mg four times a day. Once healed, the dosage for preventing it from returning is typically 150 mg twice daily.
