Zantac Alternatives

Zantac® (ranitidine hydrochloride) is a medicine commonly used for treating GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease), ulcers, erosive esophagitis, and heartburn. It is available as both a prescription drug and an over-the-counter product.

Although most people respond well to Zantac, alternatives to the medication are available for those who experience side effects or do not feel that their symptoms have improved. Some of these alternatives include other medications, changes to the diet (or other lifestyle changes), and surgery.

A few of the more common medication alternatives to Zantac include antacids and foaming agents, proton pump inhibitors, and other H2 blocker medicines. If you want to try another drug, talk to your healthcare provider to explore various options.
