Zantac® (ranitidine hydrochloride) is a medication approved for the treatment of gastric and duodenal ulcers, heartburn, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), and other conditions. It is available over-the-counter and by prescription, and comes in the form of tablets, syrup, and dissolvable tablets. Zantac works by blocking histamine in the stomach, which reduces the amount of acid it produces. Before using any Zantac products, talk to your healthcare provider if you have kidney disease, liver disease, or phenylketonuria.
