Zantac® is a medication that is licensed to treat heartburn and conditions such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), stomach ulcers, erosive esophagitis, and pathological hypersecretory conditions. It is available both as an over-the-counter medication and as a prescription drug; some forms and strengths of the medicine are only available with a prescription. Zantac belongs to a class of drugs known as H2 blockers. Side effects of the medication may include upset stomach, headache, constipation, and diarrhea.
