Other Medications That Can Interfere With Zegerid

Certain Diuretics
Zegerid can cause low blood magnesium (hypomagnesemia). Because certain diuretics can also cause this problem, combining Zegerid with one of these diuretics could cause severely low blood magnesium levels, which may lead to serious side effects such as muscle spasms, irregular heart rhythms, or seizures. Your healthcare provider may decide to monitor your magnesium levels periodically if you are taking Zegerid with one of these diuretics.

Erlotinib
Zegerid may decrease the absorption of erlotinib, perhaps making it less effective. Your healthcare provider may recommend an alternative to Zegerid while you are taking erlotinib.

HIV Medications
Zegerid can interact with some HIV medications. Depending on the medication, it could decrease the level of the medication in the blood (making it less effective) or increase the level (increasing the risk of side effects). Check with your healthcare provider before combining Zegerid with any HIV medications.

Iron Supplements
Zegerid can decrease the absorption of iron supplements into your bloodstream, perhaps making them less effective. Your healthcare provider may need to increase your iron dose as a result.

Ketoconazole
Zegerid can decrease the absorption of ketoconazole into your bloodstream, perhaps making it less effective. Your healthcare provider may need to increase your ketoconazole dosage to prevent this interaction from occurring.

Methotrexate
Zegerid might increase the level of methotrexate in the blood, increasing the risk for methotrexate side effects. Check with your healthcare provider before combining these two medications.

Phenytoin
Zegerid can increase the level of phenytoin in your blood, increasing your risk of phenytoin side effects. Your healthcare provider may need to decrease your phenytoin dosage to prevent this.
